Stamped Concrete: Method of Working

PREPARATION:
Before laying the concrete, the ground below must be well compacted and levelled. We can use flexible forming materials to create a range of shapes for stamping. A nylon sheet and steel mesh is laid to increase the strength of the concrete.
LAYING:
Stamped concrete requires a highly resistant, low contraction concrete without clay or impurities. We level the surface with a magnesium bull float and then dust with a product called 'hardstone' which penetrates the surface. We then dust the surface again with a product called 'stonart'. We then lay the stamps on the surface and beat them.
FINISHING:
After two or three days, the surface requires a thorough washing with a pressure hose. After a day or two, the surface is sealed. If the surface is very porous, a second coat may be required.
